GUIDELINES FOR USE WITH UNDERFLOOR HEATING

You will be advised by an expert member from Scott’s with regards to which floors are most suitable for use with Underfloor Heating.

We will liaise directly with your architect or builder for specific technical details relating to the particular UFH system to be installed. This will help us to more accurately advise on how the floor should be fitted.

Please note

It is important that the system has been working constantly for at least 3 weeks prior to installation to ensure that the majority of the moisture has evaporated from the screed. This is important, regardless of the time of year.

There is a responsibility on behalf of the customer to operate the system correctly. This means no sudden adjustments of heat levels. Ideally your system should be controlled by an outside thermostat which will adjust the internal temperatures in tandem to changes in outside temperatures.

Your floor surface temperature should never exceed 27 degrees. In properly insulated properties this level would be considered excessive and uncomfortable causing.

Prior to Installation

Turn on the underfloor heating system as soon as possible. It is important to gradually increase the temperature over a period of 5 + days.

For example:

Set at a room temperature of 10 -12 degrees C on day one:

Increase by 1 to 2 degrees C every 1 to 2 days:

Once the temperature has reached 18 degrees C maintain this temperature for a period of 5 - 7 days and then set to desired level.

Your fitter will advise you with regards to turning the system off before installation. Generally installation methods involving the use of adhesives will require the system to be turned of approximately two days before installation to allow for cooling down.

Immediately following installation

Repeat above steps for Prior to installation

Ongoing

It is important that, on an ongoing basis, temperature is always increased and decreased very gradually - ideally by 2 to 3 degrees C per day. Any sudden changes in temperature will cause the solid wood floor to react adversely.
